A Night Out

I convinced Pete to go to BYU's alumni dance- the Traditions Ball, in the Hinckley Center. You may be wondering how I got him to go to a dance, but the secret is that we mostly just watched the entertainment, and had great refreshments. The best entertainment was Noteworthy, the female version of Vocal Point, and they had some really funny numbers. We noticed the yearbooks from the 50's 60's and 70's displayed, and I randomly picked one that had Uncle Bob (Robert Webb) in it. Then I looked for Mom, and found her on my third try in '64 - who would've guessed? Can you find her? Mom was easy to pick out in all the orchestra pictures with her big hair, on the front row looking all smart and pretty. Actually my favorite part of the evening was walking out to the gazebo in the stars, and it just reminded me so much of Twilight, so I leaned my neck back and told Pete I was ready for him to bite me. Pete was super embarrassed, because the people next to us heard, but it was just the perfect setting and I could easily imagine some of the couples as vampires. Of course we were not the only ones to think along those lines -I overheard Cullen comments all night. However the only fangs I saw were Cosmo's (but who's really under that costume?). I was worried to leave Logan for so long, but the evening worked out great because Hallie watched Logan in SF where he played with baby Julia, and then went right to sleep when she put him in his crib. When we came home he was sleeping soundly. What a nice night out.

For Penny's Sake

Logan swallowed a penny about a week ago. What a bad Mom I am! I don't know how he got two pennies in his mouth, but he did and when I tried to get them out he arched his back and resisted so much that one of them went right down his throat. I thought it would just pass through, but for the next day or two he gagged and coughed and sometimes threw up his solid foods. One time he started crying and wouldn't eat anymore even though I knew he was hungry. Poor chubby Logan was living off of nursing and applesauce. So we got an appointment with Logan's pediatrician, Dr. Lauret, and he brought out a cool metal detector wand like policemen have. Sure enough it beeped right at shoulder level. Dr. Lauret couldn't see the penny down Logan's throat, and I was a little worried that he would just tell me it wold pass on its own. But he said, "We're going to get that penny out." So he sent me to the hospital and we got x-rays that they let me keep- that was cool. Then we spent a long time waiting to see Dr. Parsons, the ear nose throat doctor and the really bad part was that they didn't want me to feed Logan anything just in case they decided to put him under right then. Dr. Parsons recorded me saying some stuff into his little microphone about Logan gagging, and then he decided that the next morning would be the best time to take the penny out. Then he said that Logan should spend the night in the hospital so they could be sure the penny didn't come loose and block his airway. Are you kidding? I wasn't ready to spend the night at the hospital after 3 hours in docotor's offices trying to keep hungry Logan from fussing while filling out pages and pages of billing information. Talk about a nightmare, but we finally got to go home.
When we came back the next morning at 6:00, the experience was much better. Pete came with us, and Grandpa Webb visited a little later. In Logan's room there were cute little baby hospital clothes layed out on the bed with a toy car for him to take home along with booties, and a sippy cup that they filled with apple juice. Logan sat on the big hospital bed with his hospital garb holding the remote that the sound came out of, and watching TV all grown-up like. It was so cute I really wished I had my camera, and all the nurses kept stopping to adore him. He was not scared at all to leave with the nurse for his "surgery." When he came back he was a little wobbly and fussy, so he wouldn't sit in the bed anymore, but Grandpa Webb still got some pictures on his cell phone for us. The nurses brought in pudding for his sore throat, and Dr. Parsons came in with the shiny 2007 penny in a biohazard bag, telling us to "put that in his keepsakes." Dr. Parsons told us everything went well, and it didn't tear the esophagus, which would be really serious, but the penny was wedged in there pretty good, and a little lower than what he usually sees. After a couple hours Logan was back to his happy self, eating anything he could get his hands on. Logan ended up having one grand adventure all for the sake of a penny.

Easter Morning

Well Logan loved finding eggs all around the house with candy in them. It was too cold to go outside in the morning, but later we had a hunt outside, and an egg pinata that Prenten, my brother in law made. Logan loved the whole day. Pete watched him all afternoon while Hallie and I cooked, plus Pete was nice enough to cut the ham for everyone. We had a full house with my parents, Julia, Parley, William, Hallie's family, Rachel's family, my mom's mom down from Idaho, my Dad's parents, and Rachel's friend from Taiwan. It was a lot of fun.

Disco Egg

Logan loves the Disco Egg, and he knows how to turn it on, which means we hear it all day. I sure do love hearing Donald Duck sing Disco all day. Logan dances to it really cute, but never so good when I am taking a video. By the way, Logan's new favorite thing is a spoon. He has one in his hand 24/7. Sorry I can't figure out how to turn the videos right side up.

He loves walking all over with this.

Up, Up and Away

Logan suprised us last night by climbing up the whole flight of stairs by himself. That is one tough little guy, he just kept going and going, even when I could see he was very tired. Don't worry, Pete followed him up, but all he had to do was give Logan encouragement. Now we know that Logan's chubby thighs are really pure muscle. Logan and I had fun today destroying my gingerbread house. He wanted to eat it, but I am sure that candy would taste nasty by now. By the way, our Christmas tree this year was more alive than any tree you'll ever find!

When it Rains it Pours

Three milestones were crushed last week as little Loagie finally rolled over from his back to his stomach, first in front of Pete and then in front of Grandma Webb. He's almost seven months old, but better late than never. Logan also got his first tooth, after being really fussy all day Thursday, until finally I noticed it. He already loves brushing his tooth on a regular basis, and I'm sure it stays quite clean. Third, Loagie is getting around on hands and knees, and though sometimes he hops his legs forward, I would pass it off for basic crawling. I was playing violin when I looked over and he was gone. It seems he loves to hide under the dining room table, though I bet that stops as soon as he can stand! Yes I am writing this post at 5:30 am, it being the only time Logan is asleep while Pete is not using the computer. He has this huge paper due Monday that he has to get an A on, so I guess that trumps my need to blog, and I let him take the computer to work. But too much homework makes him do weird things like put Logan in frying pans. We just hope Pete can pull out a 3.0 this semester, to stay in his program.
